Susan Erdman, DVM, MPH

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Dr Erdman’s research focus is gut microbiome and host factors in systemic health and diseases. Her earlier studies with preclinical models and human patients have shown that interventions with beneficial microbes and postbiotics have immediate and long-term health-protective effects. Susan’s veterinary medical training and scientific postdoctoral training at MIT, plus population-based graduate and postdoctoral training at Harvard School of Public Health, provide a diverse background to help simplify complex problems. NIH funding has allowed her to develop expertise in microbiology, pathology, immunology, and endocrinology, and to apply these toward biomedical problems in novel ways. Most recently she is testing mutligenerational gut-immune-brain effects of microbes upon health. Dr Erdman’s abundant energy and enthusiasm for learning and science translate well into public presentations.
