George Richerson, MD, PhD

George Richerson, MD, PhD is Professor & Chairman of Neurology, and The Roy J. Carver Chair in Neuroscience at the University of Iowa. He received a BS in Aerospace Engineering from Iowa State University, and an MD/PhD from the University of Iowa. He trained in Neurology at Yale University. Using mouse models and epilepsy patients, Dr. Richerson performs research on the role of serotonin, CO2 chemoreception, breathing and arousal in sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). Dr Richerson has had continuous NIH funding since 1995, and is a PI in the Center for SUDEP Research of the NINDS/NIH.
